Happy Halloween!

Just a lil post to let everybody know I am still alive :) We've been in over time for a few weeks and working on lots of Fanboy and Chum Chum lighting. It's very exciting to work on two projects. Each one of them has their own unique style. Above is a concept drawing for Fanboy of Oz's Momthat I really love.Just in case you haven't checked, I am now on IMDB and credited for my work on the Penguins Of Madagascar still waiting for my Tak and Fanboy credits ;)

Hello!
The production of “Fanboy and Chum Chum” is now official. Last week, Nickelodeon announced an order of 26 episodes.
Fanboy is turning out to be such a sweet show. The look is like nothing I've ever seen in CG. It has 2D animation styles but awesomely created and rendered in 3D. I think Nickelodeon is the perfect place for its style and wacky humor. I can't wait for everybody to see it :)
We have been so busy around here with the our two shows, Penguins and Fanboy and maybe a third in the works!
The department just keeps growing but the work load hasn't slowed down. Well, gotta get back to work.

Viacommunity Day 2008

On April 16th, Viacom sponsored several charities and gave all its employees the opportunity to volunteer. Four people from Nickelodeon Animation Studios and some other MTV Networks employees decided to help out at Habitat for Humanity in Santa Monica, California. Our job was to paint a mural and plant a garden in a community built by Habitat for Humanity for less fortunate families.It was a great opportunity and a wonderful experience for all involved.

Update: Back in November a group of people from the Nickelodeon Animation Studio volunteered to serve food to the homeless on a Sunday afternoon. See image below :)

Just thought I'd give everybody a little update on the new happenings in the CG Department at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. When I started working here as a Production Assistant in October, there were about 15-20 other people working here. We've grown to over 50 people in our department. There are so many new people that we've had to move out of our building because we were maxed out of power.

We are currently working on three productions: Tak and The Power Of Juju,The Penguins Of Madagascar and one other show that is in the works.

It's really great to be apart of a growing team and to see the process that it takes to make a show from the start.
Below I've added a simple day shot that I lit for an episode of Tak.

Apprentice Review

Today, unannounced , I had my apprentice review for the first 3 months of work as a Lighting and Compositing Apprentice here at Nickelodeon Animation Studio.
It went so well! I am moving on to the second stage of the apprenticeship and looking forward to learning more and growing as an artist.

Last week I was truly an apprentice, not only working on production tasks but learning new things everyday. I feel so privileged to be learning these things from Nickelodeon CG Supervisors and other artists who have taken time out of their very busy day just to teach me. I started off the week learning how to bake ambient occlusion to UV's and by the end of the week I was writing scripts for light rigs.

I was given the opportunity to create the Tak title cards. My job is to assemble all the characters of the Title and Credits in 3D and light them in Maya. After rendering out each layer I composite them together using After Affects.
